Digital Inclusion: Bridging divides across landscapes and communities

Witnessing the transformative impact of digital inclusion is truly inspiring as we journey from bustling urban centers to the most secluded villages, from tea gardens to fishing communities, and from islands to hilly terrains. As part of our dedicated project under the banner of digital inclusion, we focus on empowering eight specifically targeted marginalized communities with essential digital skills such as mobile usage, online safety, e-commerce, and navigating government services. This initiative is designed to open doors to new opportunities by connecting these diverse and often isolated communities to the global digital economy.

Already, we've reached 792,347 individuals, transforming lives in the poorest and most remote areas. Keep an eye out for moving tales from these frontlines, showcasing the real change happening every day!

UX for One hour at Academy Stage

In today’s industry of rapidly growing interfaces, the adoption of user experience streamlines any form of human/device interaction.

GP Academy hosted a masterclass on “One Hour UX” where around 300 inquisitive minds, including a group of 44 CSE students from DU, attended to delve into the UX, from understanding user psychology to mastering the art of prototyping. Every facet of UX was explored within this one-hour e-certified training session by Md Ashraful Alam, Lead UX Designer of MyGP.

The event kicked off with an inauguration speech by Solaiman Alam, Chief Digital Officer, who shared his impactful journey through digital experiences.

Later on, amidst the buzz of the crowd, AppCity took the stage to shed light on gaining hands-on user experience to develop their ideas into practical apps.

Last week Farhana Islam, the Head of ESG Grameenphone, was invited to participate as a climate leader at a breakfast meeting with US Assistant Secretary Donald Lu and Peter Hass, discussing the need for CPPA policy in Bangladesh and GP’s strong advocacy as a responsible organization. It's a testament that our efforts towards creating a sustainable future are being acknowledged and appreciated by the community.

2,212 Young readers awarded in Rajshahi

A total of 2,212 students from 51 schools in Rajshahi City received prizes for their laudable performance in book reading on Friday. They received the prizes in a colorful Prize Giving Ceremony held at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium on 10 May 2024.

BSK, under its Book Reading Program, organized the program supported by Grameenphone to give away prizes to the students who show their good performance in the evaluation phase where more than 6,000 students took part.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir attended the ceremony as the chief guest while retired Secretary Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, Artist Khairul Alam Sabuj, Circle Marketing Head of Grameenphone Shahidnur Rahman and BSK Director Shamim Al Mamun were present as special guests.

On April 2024, Grameenphone signed an agreement to support BSK in their Book Reading Program that aims to stimulate habit of reading amongst millions of children with the ambition to nurture a thoughtful future generation. As a part of this support prize giving ceremony took place on 10 May 2024 at Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy.

Cyclone Remal responses:

As a part of cyclone Remal response we are deploying the following three interventions-

1. Two water treatment plants to providing drinking water (with reverse osmosis facility to ensure desalination with a capacity of 1500 ltr/hr) at Paikgasa and Shyamnogor. Paikgasa started operation few hours back and Shyamnogor plant is on the way and hope to be operational tomorrow.

2. Two medical teams (along with free medicine) with a capacity to serve 100 patients a day. Expecting these camps will be operational from 31 May.

3. Distribute food relief support for 10000 families (with rice, suji, sugar, salt, and edible oil - sufficient for basic food requirement for a family of four for a week). Preparatory works for this deployment is in progress and will inform distribution plan shortly.

We are working with our disaster response partner Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to implement these measures.
